‘Bengaluru Would Have Been Like Bihar Without IT’: Netizens Enter Heated Debate Over Reddit Post
A Reddit post over how Bengaluru is what it is today sparked a heated debate among netizens.

A Reddit user’s post on why Bengaluru is what it is today sparked a debate. The user recounted how a friend from Patna said, “So my friend from Patna said this the other day, he was telling without IT it would be like some city in Bihar."
“He then went on to tell me that all these improved areas, high-rise buildings are all because of IT," the user quoted the friend as saying.

The post, as it went viral, drew backlash from the locals who said that reducing Bengaluru to merely an IT hub is ignorant and disrespectful to the other aspects of the city, including industries, PSUs, and the hard work put in by the people to bring the tech industry to this height.
“Do they think Bangalore was just a village before(they wouldn’t know Bangalore existed back then) Bangalore has long been known as the Garden City and the Pub City of India, even back in the day. Sure, it was smaller, but it had way more class back then. The city has always had a fantastic education system, from schools to top-notch postgraduate institutes. We may not have an IIT, but we have something even better — the Indian Institute of Science (IISc). I’m pretty sure most of them don’t even know that," a user wrote.
“I visited bangalore as a kid in the early 2000s when there was no IT. The city was no less than heaven relative to other indian cities. It had everything we wish for now. Greed of government and builders have literally destroyed the city," another user wrote.
A user challenged the notion that Bengaluru starts and comes to an end with Koramangala and Whitefield and said, “Tell him/her to get out of his IT bubble and see the real Bangalore, which isn’t restricted to Koramangala, Whitefield, Bellandur and Electronic City. We consider those areas to be a part of Bengaluru just on paper".
Another user presented an opposite perspective and said, “That’s why all those IT areas are so shit. These bob the builders don’t have brains. They don’t come out of their 5km radius of marthahalli and whitefeild".
One user introduced traffic jam woes in the debate and said, “Bengaluru still got that shine even before the IT boom. Even if there were no IT industry here at least it would be more peaceful and have lesser traffic."
